The Dolls’ Saint Costumes {with links to our children’s past Saint Costumes!}

by | Oct 25, 2013 | All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day, American Girl, Costumes, Sewing | 13 comments

I’m not the only one who has been working on preparing costumes for our upcoming annual All Hallows’ Eve Party…  The older girls have been busy creating costumes for the dolls as well!

Josefina is dressed as Our Lady of Guadalupe…

… complete with a blue play silk veil covered with paper stars, and paper roses at her feet!

Caroline is dressed as St. Cecilia…

… Kaya is dressed as St. Kateri…

… Kirsten is dressed for Lucia Day in honor of St. Lucy…
(She is wearing the original American Girl outfit and wreath, but I am dying to show you all a beautiful new option that a friend of mine has recently created… soon!)

… and Mia (as in ME-ah – Rose’s look like-me-ah doll) is dressed as Our Lady of the Rosary!
I always love seeing their creativity!
Anyways, it is time for me to get back to helping the children assemble their costumes for this year, now that the girls have shown me how to thread the machine…. (I am so thankful I had them take that sewing class this past summer!)   We are headed to our parish’s party this evening and I will try to share this year’s costumes soon.  In the meantime you can browse through some of the children’s past Saint Costumes in the archives or by clicking the individual links below.

Lovely dollies! I enjoy seeing their creativity too, and it reminds me so much of my big girls when they were younger. They used to make so many things for their dolls to wear and play with. Happy sewing!

Oh my goodness!!! My sister and I used to dress our dolls for All Saint's Day as well! I had four dolls, so I dressed up my Kirsten doll as Blessed Lucia, my Bitty Twin boy was Francisco, and my Bitty Baby was Jacinta, with my other doll as Our Lady of Fatima. We, too, improvised the costumes with whatever we had. Your pictures brought back wonderful memories! It still makes me smile to see young girls enjoying the dolls I played with only a few years ago!

    God bless,
    Melanie (age 15)

I fell in love with celebrating All Saints' Day when I converted in 2005 and had my first son in 2006. I stumbled on your blog and truly became inspired! Thank you for all the great Saint posts/activities/feast day with families ideas. My offer of sending trinkets from Alaska still stands when you study this huge state. Do not know how long will be here, but embracing God's purpose for my family. God bless.

How sweet and what a good job they did. I am in denial of how soon I need to have our costumes ready. I have been piece mealing them but need to actually sit down and see if they really look like St Michael and St Joan of Arc.

Those are fantastic! I'm laughing at threading the needle. It stops so many people, but that's the hardest thing about sewing. And it's always the girls who can figure it out!

We just had Trunk or Treat at our parochial school and, although we have a rule that costumes should be book based, I'd so love to do Saints. There are, after all, lots of books we could use.

I finally found it for a reasonable price on ebay! Wait though… I have a second set that is even cuter that a friend made for me. Hopefully she will get her etsy shop open soon!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
