{pretty, happy, funny, real}

~ Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life. ~

Rose had so much fun playing catch with her sister the other day.

The kids are all very happy with their science journals this year (the original journal for the boys and the junior journal for the girl) and super excited to be studying Swimming Creatures.   I just ordered this Sea Life Alphabet Coloring Book to add to the Alphabet Path for Snuggles, which he can color while he sits in on his older siblings science (we read the text aloud all together) and participates in the extra activities!

Every school has a class clown... Right?!?

Have I mentioned yet that our little Bud frequently sleeps with his eyes open?  So strange!  It's like he's watching me to make sure that I don't try and set him down or leave the room...  I've read that most babies will outgrow this by 12-18 months.  I sure hope so!

  1. Snuggles is a real character! as you say each class has a clown:) It's been a while since I've 'caught up' here and I really can't believe how much your little ones have grown! Still remember snuggles and Rose as babies, and little Bud just reminds me of Snuggles.

  2. I like the journal ideas - as my 1st grader gets older and writing (more) I think I will incorporate this type of learning into her education!

  3. Jessica - SUCCESS!!! It was the third-party cookies! I disabled it and wouldn't you know - I GOT PUBLISHED! LOL!!! Thanks for all the help and "detective work" on this one! If anyone else out there might be having the same trouble posting comments and you use Firefox, enable your third-party cookies in "preferences" on the drop down menu at the top of your screen, go to "privacy" and it will be in that menu - you just have to tick the appropriate box.

  4. Snuggles is hysterical! He must keep you in stitches :). That's so weird that Bud sleeps with his eyes open.

  5. Just to be clear (I mistyped above) - you need to ENABLE your third-party cookies in "privacy" under "preferences" in your drop down menu at the top of your computer screen under the word "Firefox".

  6. Yay!!! I'm so glad we were able to figure it out! And thank you for taking the time to comment! :)

  7. Hi again!
I wanted to ask about your Science studies with the Swimming Creatures - are you just doing the journals this year or are you also doing the lap books from Currclick? Is this the first year you've done the journals? Just wondering what your experiences have been and what you like/don't link/think about the program. My daughter has the Seton Science 1 this year which is anatomy and I'm thinking of the Anatomy book-junior journal or lap books as a complimenting study. Any thoughts you might have would be great! Thanks!!!! The kids look like they love their journals!

  8. Hi Jessica,

We have the same science this year. I also decided to splurge and purchase the deluxe lab that came out this year that compliments each book. My oldest daughter, in 8th grade is using Apologia Physical Science and she has a lab as well. I cannot say how awesome these labs are. Worth every single penny. Enjoy! It is such a fun series. P.S. I never knew baluga whales molt!!!

  9. We are using Apologia this year for the first time and love it...we are doing son's pictures are nothing like that though!! wow you have an artist...

  10. Your little bud is so cute! Good luck this school year. Maureen

  11. I love your little Chiquita's dress!! I'm having a harder and harder time finding pretty dresses with sleeves that are nice enough for Sunday Mass. Do you remember where you found it?

    Thank you!

    1. Sorry for taking so long to get back to your question, Catie!

The dress is from Gymboree, and it's currently on clearance. Here's the link: Sunflower Smoked Poplin Dress

  12. Hi Jessica!

Thank you so much for the pictures of the science notebooks! I have often loved this idea and I think that these would make it easier for our children to stay focused on completing the assignment and for them to stay interested in the ideas.

Beautiful pictures of your children, too! We had one who slept with his eyes open and I don't know what he does now that he is older - after they're tucked for the night I don't often see them sleeping and I'm sure not going to get out the flashlight! :-)

  13. Oh - had to laugh - your Snuggles reminded me of my Lucas (same age, right? 5?)
My 8yo daughter still sleeps with her eyes open - really weird, I have to remember that fact so I don't think she is faking sleeping!

best wishes for a great school year

  14. It is disconcerting to see the eyes-open sleeping!! But all your kids are so cute!
