My Advent Daybook ~ November 30th

by | Nov 30, 2009 | Daybook | 4 comments

Outside my window… there are a few strips of purple spray paint on the grass from a little project I “prepared” this weekend. 😉

I am hearing… my children talking and laughing as they work on various projects.

I am thinking… about December and all of our plans. Sometimes I really wish I knew just exactly when this little one will arrive!

I am thankful for… my wonderful midwife. She has delivered all five of our children, whether or not she has been “on call.” She called me over the weekend, and again this morning since I had missed her call, to go over the ultrasound from last Wednesday. She wanted me to come in today to listen to the baby’s heart again, but since I have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning, it can wait until then.

I am praying… for Kelly who has just been put on bed rest at just 27 weeks pregnant with her little guy.
From the kitchen… Turkey Soup and lots of other leftovers from Thanksgiving. We spent Thanksgiving at our own home this year, with just our children. It was quiet but still really nice and very relaxing!

From the learning rooms… this is our last week of “full-time” school before our Advent/Christmas break begins. The boys completed their New Testament Lap Books last week for Unit 2-3 of World History, though they do have a little bit of reading to finish over their break. We will continue with Units 4-7 next year. I am hoping they are able to wrap up Science and American History as well this week… The girls are on “N” week and most of our activities will revolve around St. Nicholas, as we prepare to celebrate his feast day this coming weekend!

Living the Liturgical Year at Home… It’s Advent!! My husband blessed the wreath last night and lit the first candle. The rest of our decorations have been pulled out, and we’ve started our various Advent traditions. I just love this season of preparation for the Birth of Christ! This week we will also celebrate the feasts of St. Francis Xavier and St. Nicholas.

I am creating… the blocks for our O Antiphon House. Just one left to finish and they will be done! This “quick” project is taking me forever due to my own procrastination! Good thing I started when I did!

I am wearing… Mustela Instant Comfort Legs. It really seems to help!

I am going… to head to the library today. Apparently I have an overdue book, or two… {{sigh}} I am so thankful that our Christmas Book collection has gotten big enough to not have to worry about checking out any books this year!!!

I am reading… lots of picture books to my children.

I am hoping… that I deliver on the 12th. At first I thought the 18th would be nice, but with all the contractions I’ve been having, it just seems so far away! I’ll be 38 weeks on the 11th, and the 12th, being the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, would be a great birthday, don’t you think?! Perhaps God has the same plans! 😉

Noticing that… I better start thinking about packing a bag to take to the hospital soon!

Around the house… lots of hidden Christmas gifts, all wrapped and ready for Christmas. It is so nice having almost all of it taken care of before Advent began!

One of my favorite things… the St. Therese Doll my friend Amy made for “Rose.” Isn’t she perfect!?! I keep telling Amy that she needs to put together a book of patterns for the various saint dolls she has made. They are all amazing!

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Still to do from last week:

  • Start writing Thank You cards
  • Work on creating an address database for our Christmas Cards/Birth Announcements (Can you believe I’ve been hand addressing about 150 cards every year?! It will be nice to have it all in the computer for once, if I can find the time to actually input them all.)
New plans:
  • Weekly OB Check-Up tomorrow morning
  • First Friday Mass and possible Home-School Event

A Picture thought I am sharing:

A sneak-peek at our Jesse “Tea”
I’ll post more about it tomorrow!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
