Small Successes :: October 22, 2009

"It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that."

~ 1 ~

I painted a simple St. Vincent de Paul to add to our Alphabet of Saints! I can't believe it has been 14 months since I started painting and have yet to complete our set... Now that we are actually traveling the Alphabet Path, it is a bit more necessary to finish it up. Only about 5 more to go and I be done, at least with ours. I also started painting a set for my friend Marci, and gave her the first 6 today. I hope she isn't holding her breath for the remaining 20!! ;)

I held our 4th Little Flowers Meeting this afternoon! We'll just be having one more meeting, in two weeks, before we take a 3 month winter/baby break. I'll try and share some pictures from today's meeting soon.

Even though Hubby has been gone all week, and has only been able to call home for a few minutes on Tuesday, I am still alive!! It has been a busy week, but I've managed to keep up with the laundry, the dishes, bathing children, and have even baked Apple Puff Pancakes for breakfast twice! Thank you to all of you who have been praying for me this week. I am sure it has made all the difference!

What are your Small Successes this week?

  1. Yea! for your successes :) I'm going to try those apple puff pancakes this weekend I hope. I can't wait to see your St. Vincent! I'm not very artistic or a good painter but you're inspiring me to give those little painted saints a try. It's never easy when our husbands are away so I give you major kudos for getting through it unscathed. ;)

Hoping you're feeling better, may God bless you!

  2. Thank you Kelly and I hope you enjoy the pancakes!

I did upload a picture of St. Vincent to the Alphabet of Saints Post, but I'll update this one with the photo too.

And yes, I AM feeling MUCH better! Last week was a killer! =)

  3. Hi Jessica. You continue to be such an inspiration for me. I'm glad to hear you've made it through your week so well. I know you'll be glad to have your hubby home. Ya'll have a wonderful weekend! Love, Lori

  4. I've thought of you alot this week- I don't know how you do it when your husband is away! I made the apple puff pancakes and they were awesome!! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Well, I think it's amazing that you've painted so many wooden saints in only 14 months. Especially since you do so many other things for your family. And you only have 5 left?! I think that's remarkable success =)

I'm glad your week went well. I'm sure the Lord was showering grace upon you and your children.

Oh, and I can't wait to try those apple pancakes! I *know* my kids will love them.

    Have a blessed weekend!

  6. Ok, I'm looking for some help. My 12 year old is going to be Bl. Kateri for our Fall Fest and I cannot find a indian costume anywhere that's not so expensive for one night. Any ideas? She is an adult size small/med.

  7. Jana Jae -

Perhaps you could look at the picture of the one Our Coat of Many Colors sells for ideas:

It is expensive, but instead of purchasing it, you could buy an inexpensive brown robe --Oriental Trading has some for just $5.99 :

Then just shorten the sleeves, add ribbon around the chest and sleeves and then make a band for her head.

I am now trying to figure out how to make a costume for my oldest who wants to be St. Maximilian... Sure wish I was good at sewing!!

  9. Woops here goes again:

That should be easy Jessica! Prison-garb can be found... um... at Walmart? :)

  10. Yes -- but Captain has a particular look in mind based on this picture. So I am trying to figure out how to make the (is it black?) habit and then adding a striped shirt with his number etc, to have slung over one shoulder.

The prison costumes I've seen in the stores do not button up. But I think it wouldn't be too hard to add blue stripes to a white dress shirt.

  11. What an adorable little Saint you painted again. Congrats! The Puff Pancakes look so luscious I cannot wait to try one! Meantime, hope you are on the mend and feeling better. Take good care from now until Christmas! God Bless!
