Anyhow, I did a quick Google search for "the correct use of an apostrophe" and found the following rule:
It was just what I was looking for and I corrected my last couple posts... Now I know, and perhaps I'll be able to sleep tonight! ;) To show plural possession, make the noun plural first. Then immediately use the apostrophe.
P.S. Please overlook any new grammar errors in this post! I'm still learning...
had not even noticed :) but yes, boy's would indicate a singular boy. at least you spelled grammar right, i hate when people write 'i have poor grammer'. . . yeah, and poor spelling skills.

Funny you should talk about this today; I just reserved _The Girl's Like Spaghetti_ at my library. It's by the same author as _Eats, Shoots and Leaves_. I hope it helps me and my kids.
ReplyDeleteI often notice when others mess up, but I'm sure I make plenty of mistakes, too. I think the worst is when someone uses an apostrophe when they're really trying to just make something plural. Anyway, it's nice that you are continuing to teach yourself! That's a good lesson for us all.
I'm a copy editor, and of course I love it when mistakes are corrected! But your blog is so lovely and such an inspiration to others. I look forward to reading it every day. Thank you for sharing your life and your faith with so many, Jessica.
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Good for you to learn something new today. I’m sort of an apostrophe nazi, being an English major and former teacher myself. But I even catch myself throwing them in where they don’t belong sometimes because I see it (wrong) so often out there in the world!
