Spring Blog-Cleaning

by | Mar 6, 2009 | Uncategorized | 21 comments

Inspired by Emma and Elizabeth, I am hoping to work on my plan for our Spring Cleaning this weekend, and get started on Monday. My “to-do” list will probably look very similar to last year’s, but since I’ll be starting a bit earlier, and Easter is later this year, hopefully we will have better results!

In the meantime, I am working on a little Spring Cleaning here at my blog… Over a year ago, I spent a ridiculous amount of time manually converted my blog template to three columns. I’ve had some more comments lately on how slow my blog is to load, and I think the cause may be poor coding… Now that there are many new sites that offer 3-column templates (this one is my favorite, for those of you that have recently asked), I’ve been wanting to change my template. However, doing so would mess up my photo layouts in so many old posts, and the ones I’ve seen are just not wide enough to keep putting my photos next to each other (like I like to do!)… I thought about hiring someone to make me a pretty new blog template, but since I just blog for fun, I couldn’t justify spending any money. Anyhow, now that I’ve learned more about HTML code, I’ve been working on a new template for myself. It should have a couple new features I’ve been wanting, plus (hopefully) shorten the loading time.

I just wanted to give you all a heads up, since as soon as I upload it here, I will probably lose all my sidebar widgets and lists. I will save the ones I can before hand, but it may take me awhile to put it all back together. I’ll work on adding back my Jesus Tree links first, since I know some of you are using those each day.

Hopefully I don’t delete anything that you all have found useful, or worse, delete the whole blog!! lol! Wish me luck!

It looks beautiful! I’m pretty sure my coding is all wrong, too, but I’m too scared to try to fix things up! Great job!

LOVE IT! What a surprise when it popped up!

I like the new, wide middle area.

I have thought about changing mine too, but it doesn’t seem like I’ve been around long enough to warrant a change!

Wow Jessica. You continue to be such a blessing in my life! Thanks for posting the link for the templates. The loading time is soooo much quicker. As you well know every second counts in our busy days 🙂 Have a blessed weekend. Lori

Thank you everyone!! After I posted last night, I went ahead and uploaded the new template, and sure enough, I lost everything in my sidebars. I was able to save most of it, except for my link lists and photos. I’ve recreated a couple of my link lists, and stayed up WAY too late updating my book lists, but over all I am pretty happy with it! It does seem to load much quicker, which I am glad about! Yay!! I’m sure I’ll be tweaking colors and the layout here and there, when I have time.

I really like your blog. Whatever you did–the load time is much quicker! Though, who could argue with admiring the beautiful St. Therese one more minute while the page loaded:o) Thanks for sharing your zeal for the Lord.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
