Not Very Becoming

by | Mar 10, 2008 | Jane Austen, Movies | 4 comments

Last Sunday I finally got to watch Becoming Jane. I had been wanting to watch it forever, but I missed it when it was at the theaters, and then had given up movies for Lent.

Well, I was disappointed. It was ok, I guess, but nowhere near outstanding like my beloved A&E version of Pride and Prejudice. Unfortunately, due to a couple inappropriate scenes, I wouldn’t even recommend this movie. But then, as hubby said, “What did you expect from Miramax?!”

I came across this review that pretty much sums up how I felt about the film. Have you seen it? What were your thoughts?

I know! It was sad. I like happy Austen movies. I did like it and I thought Anne Hathaway did a good job. I just wanted it to end differently. Sadly, that is probably how here life ended.

Yes, Anne Hathaway really did do a good job. I will give it that! 🙂

I was worried too. I know a lot of Austen fans were not happy with it. But I thought to give it a try anyway.
    Sigh.
I was still hoping…. 🙂 I am starting to think ballroom dancing, no matter how horrible I am at it, is better than movies!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
