Please Pray!

I had a phone call from my brother Brian today, and wanted to ask you all for prayers for his wife and sweet baby girl. My little niece is not due to arrive until May 9th, but she has stopped growing and the doctor has decided to induce my sister-in-law tonight. Could you all please say a prayer for a safe delivery and healthy baby? Thank you!!

An Update on Rose

Today we were finally able to see the pediatric cardiologist for Rose's follow-up echocardiogram. (A couple days after she was born she had her first echocardiogram which detected a couple of small holes  (Ventricular Septal Defects, aka: VSD's) in her little heart in addition to a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). However, we haven't heard the murmurs since her first doctor's visit, when she was one week old.)

Rose did wonderfully!  She smiled for the nurses and didn't cry at all during the actual echocardiogram, which took quite some time.

We were really hoping to hear that her little heart was all better, and that the holes had closed.

The good news is that the holes DID close!  The bad news is she still has a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).  Sigh. . .    Usually, if a PDA hasn't closed at birth, it will most likely close within the first 4 days of life.  Since she was only two days old when she had her first echocardiogram, the doctors had been pretty confident that it would close in the next couple days. . .   It didn't close.

At this point, since it doesn't seem to be causing any enlargement/strain to her heart, and since there is still a chance that it might close, we are going to wait a year and then do another echocardiogram.  If it still present at that time the cardiologist will want to go in and close it to prevent the risk of infection.

Anyhow, it has been an emotional day, and I am trying very, very hard not to worry. . .  Thank you again for all your prayers. If you could continue to pray for our precious little Rose, it would be greatly appreciated!

"Enjoy in peace the joy God is giving you, without worrying about the future. He is reserving for you, I am sure, new graces and many consolations." ~ St. Therese, The Little Flower

On Rose Sunday

I hope you are all having a blessed Laetare Sunday!

We just arrived home from Mass with coffee and a box full of donuts.  Yum!    The girls and I considered baking a Simnel Cake today, but opted to spend the afternoon making either a Strawberry Brownie Shortcake or Sunflower Cupcakes instead, as we slowly make our way through "S" Week.

Anyhow, I am just popping in to announce the winner of our recent giveaway!

Congratulations to . . . Jenny!

I will mail the Vessels & Vestments game and little St. Therese doll just as soon as I receive your mailing address.  :)

Thank you all for taking the time to check out Catholic Artworks and share your favorite products.  I really enjoyed hearing from all of you!

Before I go, can I ask you all to say a quick prayer for my Grandfather?  It has been one year today since he passed away, and we miss him dearly.  Thank you!

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Praying for Rose

Our baby girl ~ December 16th, 2009 ~ 15 hours old

First of all I want to THANK YOU for all the lovely comments and congratulations!!! What a blessing it has been to have you all share in our excitement and know that you've been praying for us!

Right now it is early Friday (12/18) morning, and the baby and I are still at the hospital... Originally we were supposed to be going home yesterday, but it turned out that the baby's pediatrician wanted to keep her a little longer to monitor her heart and get an echocardiogram after hearing a murmur. The test was sent to a pediatric cardiologist specialist 4 hours away to be read and it wasn't until late yesterday afternoon before her pediatrician had spoken with the cardiologist and was able to come back in to go over the results with us.

Apparently our precious baby does have a couple of small holes (Ventricular Septal Defects, aka: VSD's) in her little heart in addition to a Patent Ductus Arteriosos (PDA). The doctor seems pretty confident that the PDA will resolve itself fairly quickly on its own, but we will need to have another echocardiogram done with the specialist when he is in town in January for the VSD's. The pediatrician also said that there is a really good chance that the holes (especially the top one) will close on their own sometime in the upcoming months/year as her heart grows, but it is something we will need to watch.

Other than that, she is doing wonderfully. She nurses well and is such a sweet little baby! She is so strong and big (almost a pound bigger than her sisters were at birth!) and hardly feels like a newborn!!

As for me, other than being a bit emotional yesterday, I am feeling okay. Despite a relatively quick (my actual "active labor" was only 2 hrs and 10 minutes, in which the last 20 minutes I went from 7cm to holding the baby!) and "easy" (ie: no pain meds, tears or stitches! Oh and the nurse got the IV, for antibiotics, in on the first try - which was a first ever for me!!) delivery, the recovery (particularly the postpartum contractions/afterpains) has been challenging and so the extra day in the hospital has probably been a good thing for me as well. I do so miss my other children though and can hardly wait to introduce them to their new baby sister!

Anyhow, I better shut off this computer (thank you Dad for loaning me your laptop!!) and try and get a bit more sleep...

Thank you all for your continued prayers. God bless!!

Another Little Saint...

Earlier today I was devastated to hear the heartbreaking news that Colleen's little boy, Bryce Philip Mitchell, died in his sleep this afternoon.

I am still in shock and, even though I know what it is like to lose a baby, I never seem to have the right words to say...   I just wanted to ask you all to please pray for comfort and healing for Colleen and her family, and to ask their new little saint to intercede on their behalf.

Last summer, my little nephew also died in his sleep.  I know how hard it is on the family, not to mention the unexpected financial burden this places on the parents when they are already dealing with so much suffering...

Elizabeth has set up a Memorial Fund for little Bryce to help defray the costs of the funeral.  Please considering donating!  Be generous if you can, but even little donations can add up fast when we all join together...  Thank you!

"Jesus said to her:  I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, although he be dead, shall live:  And every one that liveth, and believeth in me, shall not die for ever."  ~ John 11:25-26

A Change of Plans, a Birthday, and a Prayer Request

Last night, between 5:30-6:00 p.m., I was preparing dinner in honor of St. Monica and St. Augustine and looking forward to our weekend.   My husband had just finished his 40 hours for the week and would be home soon.  The phone rang and it was Hubby saying that he had just been given a fire assignment (the first for this year) and would be leaving for California in the morning...

Well, Twinkle Toes turns six on Sunday.  This year it was just going to be our family (she'll have her big birthday party with friends next year, for her 7th birthday), so we were thinking of driving to the coast on Saturday and then having her requested "cowgirl" themed party on Sunday afternoon.   ... sigh...   I was so sad that Hubby was going to miss yet another birthday!

We usually always celebrate birthdays ON our children's birthdays, but we decided, this time, that I would throw a cake in the oven and we would have a little birthday celebration before he left!  (That way he could also see her open the gift we were so excited to give her!)   So as dinner was simmering on the stove, I quickly baked a cake.  I was so excited to have a reason to make Madeline's Gateau Chapeau after all!  (Remember our recent Madeline Lap Book?)

Twinkle Toes was very excited!

After the cake, we brought out her gift!
It was the cutest thing, watching her reaction as she opened the box.

As soon as she saw the cradle she sat down on the hearth and pretty much froze.
She was so excited!

She then jumped up and ran to give her daddy and I a hug, before taking it out of the box!

Then she was off to find a doll!

Oh! And Twinkle Toes wasn't the only one that loved the new cradle! ;)

Well, very early this morning hubby had to leave, and I haven't spoken with him since.  He wasn't sure if he'd be able to call during this assignment or not, due to the location.  Rascal got up early to see him off with me, and had tears rolling down his cheeks as his daddy pulled out of the driveway.  It is going to be a hard couple weeks...

In the meantime, I am still going to try to pull off a "cowgirl" party on Sunday for Twinkle Toes.  I actually ended up asking a couple of her little friends (whom we saw at Mass and Benediction this morning) to join us.  It will be nice to have a little bit of company...

Anyhow, I would really appreciate any prayers you can spare, for his safety.  Thank you!!

A Prayer Request

From the comments:
Jessica, I wanted to ask for your prayers, because after reading your blog for awhile now, I knew you would understand...I lost my precious baby this past week-on my birthday. I was due on Christmas also. I am heartbroken beyond words. I have 5 living children-all the exact ages as yours and I lost our first daughter to a stillbirth between 21-23 weeks. I have two other babies I miscarried very early on in Heaven as well. I remember being very excited when I saw we were due the same day and have loved all your posts about your baby and marking 12 weeks etc...My 5 year old was hospitalized all of last week (he was admitted on the birthday of our stillborn daughter...). His right lung had collapsed from severe asthma...my doctor wonders if I may have contracted a virus that harmed my unborn baby while our little boy was in the hospital. Can you please keep me in your prayers? We are truly devastated and still very much in shock...I too felt my baby move for the first time right when you did. It hurts so much....Thank you for sharing your beautiful family with us.
Love,
Adele in Louisiana

I was in tears reading Adele's note, and my heart is aching for her. I can not even imagine being asked by Our Lord to carry the cross he has allowed for her and her family right now. Words seem so very inadequate but I know how much all of YOUR prayers helped my family during the loss of our little Gabriel last November and so I wanted to pass on Adele's prayer request to you all.

Please join me in praying for Adele and her family, and ask Our Lord and Blessed Mother to console them during this very sad time.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

It won't be long now!

My mom just called, and it seems that my little sister Jamie is in labor with their 3rd child!! Her due date wasn't until July 3rd, but I guess that's only a couple weeks away, which would make her full term! I found the following beautiful prayer on Anne's blog. Would you all please join me in praying it for Jamie?

Prayer for a Safe Delivery

Saint Elizabeth, through the great blessings you received from God at the birth of your son, Saint John, I beseech you to obtain for Jamie the grace of deeply understanding with joyful wonder the privilege of motherhood and of living each day in happy anticipation.

I ask this grace through the Precious Blood of Jesus, God’s Gift of Love to us.

Saint Anne, obtain for Jamie through your own blessed child, Mary ever Virgin, the grace that no accident may befall her and that she may deliver her child safe and sound into the world.

I ask this grace through the Precious Blood of Jesus, God’s Gift of Love to us.

Mary, my Mother, I pray you to intercede before your Divine Son, Jesus, and obtain for Jamie the help and blessings of God so that she may patiently endure with joyful expectation the pains of delivery and that her child may receive the grace of Baptism.

I ask this grace through the Precious Blood of Jesus, God’s Gift of Love to us.

Amen.

UPDATE: No baby yet. It looks like my sister's labor stopped during the night. Please continue to keep her in your prayers!

Requiscat in Pace!

Yesterday morning we attended the funeral of a kind older man from church, Mr. Ralph Denman. My boys both loved Mr. Denman, and have been serving Mass and Benediction with him on Friday's since they were 5 years old. He was an excellent role model to my boys, and will be missed dearly.

My husband was telling me that, on the day Ralph died, he seemed to know that he was going and dressed in his best suit. That brought tears to my eyes, and shows just a bit of his wonderful personality!

My two youngest brothers served the Funeral Mass and a friend of ours put together this great video. At the end of the video Father sings a beautiful song while incensing, which always makes my cry: In Paradisum.

In paradisum deducant te angeli,
in tuo adventu
suscipiant te martyres,
et perducant te
in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem.
Chorus angelorum te suscipiat,
et cum Lazaro quondam paupere
aeternam habeas requiem.

May the angels lead you into paradise,
may the martyrs receive you
in your coming,
and may they guide you
into the holy city, Jerusalem.
May the chorus of angels receive you
and with Lazarus once poor
may you have eternal rest

Updated to Add:

Our friend Marc just sent me the clip of "In Paradisum" from the above video. Thanks Marc!

In loving memory...

Francis Aloysius
June 5, 1920 - March 14, 2009

I just found out that my Grandpa died last night... Oh, I am going to miss him soooooo much! I would love to tell you all about him, but I just can't right now. It's all I can do to get on here and ask if you could please say a prayer for the repose of his soul, as well as one for my sweet grandmother, their 13 children, and countless* grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (*My Grandpa could always tell you exactly how many of us there are... All together he has over 100 descendants!)

I love you Grandpa!

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Could you please...

... say a prayer for a dear friend of mine and her family? I just got off the phone with her, and she could really use all the prayers we can send. I am going to go and pray a rosary for them right now, but would you all mind adding a prayer (or two!) as well? Thank you all so much!

Amen.

A Quick Update

I can't believe it is already Thursday!! It has been a busy week, and I just haven't had the time (or motivation) for blogging. Did you know that if you get Strep Throat bad enough, it can turn into a Kidney infection?? I didn't, but that's what happened to hubby this past week. He is starting to feel better, now that he is on antibiotics.

I just added another prayer request to the side bar (would you consider doing the same??). Please add Elizabeth to your prayers, and Sarah's sweet little Sophia, and please continue to pray for the Hadley's. THANK YOU!!

I did check in over at Regina's yesterday, and was able to report a 1 lb loss this past week! Yay!! Basically it was the pound I gained last week, but not bad considering all the treats we've had around here lately! Even though I haven't had that much time for exercising (I only got to it twice this past week), I have been very good about watching my portion sizes.

I also wanted to let you all know that I had to turn on comment moderation after receiving over 50 spam comments over the last couple days. I guess I haven't been the only one... Very frustrating!! I am still working on deleting them all.

Well, it's time for me to get off the computer and get my children started with their schoolwork. Hopefully I be able to catch up with you all soon. I hope you are all having a great week!

Please Pray

I just got home from my doctors and turned my computer on to find this urgent prayer request from Mary.
Hello friends, a priest friend of ours have sent out an urgent email prayer request. Please please pray. Please sacrifice and pray. Lord Jesus, have mercy on us.

"Earlier this evening I had my last conversation with this young lady and her parents. Despite their apparent regret, they will be going through with the abortion tomorrow morning, January 12 at 8.00am (ET)--some of you may already have read this message after that time. It will be a chemical abortion so she will just take a pill at home that her “provider” already made already available to her. I was able to talk to Eduardo Verástegui this afternoon and he offered to talk to her. She wouldn’t talk to him nor anyone else about her decision. Let’s pray for her conversion in a very special way."
Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the unborn, pray for us!

Inauguration Day Mass Intentions

A couple weeks ago, I was sent this prayer request, and since it is such an awesome idea, I wanted to pass it on to you all so that you can help out as well!!
WHO: A few faithful Catholic lay people and priests. (Anyone can do this: stay-at-home moms, singles, retired people, students–anyone–and we can have a huge impact on our country’s future.)

WHAT: Have a Mass said on Inauguration Day for our new President. It can be said for his conversion or, “That our new president will work to protect the dignity of each human life.” Consider that St. Leonard of Port Maurice said that one Mass offered before death may be more profitable than many after it, and St. Anslem affirmed this.

WHEN: Tuesday January 20, 2009 Inauguration Day

WHERE: Throughout our country in as many Catholic churches as possible.

WHY: Because offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for an intention is very powerful.

HOW: Simply call your local parish and ask to reserve January 20th for your intention. Then send a check for $10 to the priest for your Mass intention. Next please choose three friends (or more) to pass this request on to.
I'll be calling my local parishes this week to request Masses for this intention. Here is the list of Masses being offered (as of a couple weeks ago -- I am sure there are many more!) Won't you help us get YOUR parish onto this list?

Remembering...

You may remember this past summer, I asked for prayers. I would like to share a poem that my sister wrote about:

**If you click over, be prepared to shed a few tears, and please continue to pray, especially for my little brother.

Please join us in praying...

... for Elizabeth Foss and her baby girl. Elizabeth is currently in labor, and her due date is not for another 5 weeks. Please pray for a safe delivery!!

Amen.

Please pray...

... for Elizabeth Foss and her precious little one.

Prayer for a Special Favor

O Most Blessed Trinity, I your unworthy creature, thank you for all the gifts and privileges which you have granted to Saint Gerard, especially for those virtues with which you have adorned him on earth and the glory which you impart to him in heaven.  Accomplish your work, O Lord, for the greater glory of the Holy Church.  Glorify him before men and women and through his merits, in union with those of Jesus and Mary, grant me the grace for which I ask …(mention your request)

And you, my powerful intercessor St. Gerard, always so ready to help those who have recourse to you, pray also for me.   Prostrate yourself before the throne of Divine Mercy and please do not leave it without being heard.  To you I confide this important and urgent affair.  Graciously take my cause in hand and let me not end this novena without having experienced in some way the effects of your intercession.  Amen.

St. Gerard, Patron of Expectant Mothers ~ Pray for us!
