Little Flowers Girls' Club Wreath IV Lap Book

I am so excited to share the Wreath IV Lap Book I've been working on this summer with you all!   I had a pretty good idea when I got started of what I wanted it to turn out like, but transferring it from my mind to actual printable mini-books was much more time consuming than I originally thought it would be.   So, even though it is rather simple, I am very proud of this "accomplishment!" :)

(Illustrated by my sister Julianna. Thank you Juli!! - of course each girl can decorate their cover however they would like!)

(To be completed before the first meeting. - The girls can complete this book however they would like, either by writing, illustrating, or even pasting in photographs!)

Here is an example of how simple this can be done:

.: Mini-Books that will be added to Monthly :.

(paste or write in one Definition and one Motto at each meeting)

(Compete and add one of each, at each meeting.  Have the girls write or narrate a little something they remember (or a lot!) about each person inside the profile books.)

(add one jewel to the Treasure Box at each meeting, pasting or writing the explanation on the back)

.: Additional Meeting Specific Mini Books :.

Meeting #1 - The Gift of Wisdom
Have each girl find and copy their favorite quote from the book of Wisdom

Meeting #2 - The Gift of Understanding
Have each girl find a passage from the Book of Proverbs on Understanding to copy and memorize

Meeting #3 - The Gift of Knowledge
Have each girl find and copy their favorite quote from Psalm 139 on Knowledge

Meeting #4 - The Gift of Counsel
Words of Counsel from a Doctor of the Church
Have each girl find and copy a favorite quote from a Doctor of the Church

Meeting #5 - The Gift of Fortitude

Meeting #6 - The Gift of Piety
Copy some favorite quotes on Devotions at Mass, to remember at Mass

Meeting #7 - The Gift of Fear of the Lord

.: Prayer Booklet and Cards :.

.: Additional Coloring Pages :.
(choose one of these beautiful coloring pages found online for the back cover)

.: Assembly of Lap Book :.

This Lap Book was compiled with 2 light pink file folders with 2 hot pink sheets of cardstock added as flaps/pages for the Saints and Converts (attached with clear packing tape).   There are also a couple more sheets of pink cardstock used as well - one for behind the coloring page on the front, and the other creating a pocket on the back to store a St. Therese Paper Doll or St. Therese and Her Family Paper Dolls.   Here is a picture of my daughter holding my completed sample Lap Book:

The downloads for all of these Mini Books can all be found in this folder at Scribd.

I have also compiled a document listing which of the Member's Guide Assignments the Mini-Books included in this Wreath IV Lap Book satisfy towards earning each of the jewels for the Wreath IV patch.

St. Therese, the Little Flower, Pray for us!

Craft Plans and Ideas for Little Flowers Wreath IV

Here is a compilation of links for the crafts that my Little Flowers Girls' Club will be making this coming year, as we work our way through Wreath IV!

Starlight Cookies
*We will adapt this idea from over at Catholic Cuisine for our 4th meeting, for the gift of "Counsel" (following recipes!).  I purchased a light blue cloud fabric for the jars, tying in the color/jewel of "aquamarine" and the symbol of "clouds."

Woven Crosses and/or Marian Banner - Fluer de Lys
*These craft kits will be ordered from Illuminated Ink!  Either one of these would work perfectly for St. Joan of Arc and the Gift of Fortitude.

Spiritual Bouquets and/or Marian May Baskets
*I love these little printable cards for Spiritual Bouquets and these Marian May Baskets! The girls will make the Spiritual Bouquets to give to their own Fathers and our local priests, as suggested in one of the Member's Guide assignments for this last meeting.

St. Therese, the Little Flower, Pray for us!

St. Therésè Sacrifice Beads

"St. Therésè, the Little Flower, as a child, used a small string of beads in her pocket to help her count the gifts she did to offer to God. In this way she was able to advance in perfection daily. You too, can grow in holiness by following the example of the Little Flower.

Sacrifice Beads or Good Deed Beads are a string of ten beads, which can be pulled and remain in place. They are used to count the acts of love or sacrifices a person makes in a day for God. The string of beads helps a person to grow in virtue by challenging them to be faithful in making acts of love each day. Sacrifice Beads also have a fixed Our Father bead on the end of them and can double up as a rosary."

For our 6th Little Flowers Girls' Club Meeting for Wreath IV, which focuses on St. Therese and the gift of Piety, we will be making Sacrifice Beads using cord and beads in the color "Amethyst," the jewel for this particular meeting.

Supplies:

11 Pony Beads
25" Piece of Cord
1 Miraculous Medal or St. Therese Medal
1 Crucifix

“Without love, deeds - even the most brilliant,
count as nothing” - St. Therésè of Lisieux

IHS Candle Craft

Incorporating the IHS symbol, which is part of the symbol for St. Gertrude, we will be decorating candles for our 3rd Meeting for Wreath IV of our Little Flowers Girls' Club.   This meeting focuses on the Gift of Knowledge, St. Gertrude, the gemstone Topaz, as well as the symbol of "Fire" making this a perfect craft for this meeting!

Supplies:

White Pillar Candles
Gold Decorating Wax (I ordered this 12 pack from Stockmar/Amazon.  It is also available in a color combination pack from Magic Cabin.)
IHS Template
Xacto Knife

Pre-Meeting Prep:

Trace/Cut Letters from the Gold Decorating Wax using an X-acto Knife.

Directions:

Peel the Gold IHS from the Backing paper.

Apply the letters to the candle.

Press with hand against candle, and the warmth/heat from your hand will adhere the wax letters to the wax candle.

Note: Another option for this November/Fall meeting would be to have the kids roll candles using a Beeswax Candle Kit (Magic Cabin also has a great Autumn Kit), in preparation for Thanksgiving!

Crafting a Holy Water Font

For our 2nd Meeting the year, as we work our way through Wreath IV of the Little Flowers Girls' Club, we will be making Holy Water Fonts since the Member's Guide lists the symbol for this meeting as being "Water."  I choose to make ours Heart Shape in honor of St. Catherine of Alexandria, the saint we will be studying for this meeting as well!    The jewel for this month is the Emerald, and so I also picked up some Emerald colored paint, but I will give the girls a variety of colors to choose from when they paint their own.

St. Catherine of Alexandria
Holy Water Fonts

Supplies:

Wooden Plaques (these were $1.00 each at Michaels)
Sawtooth Hangers or Ribbon
Plastic cups (from the Dollar Store)
Hot Glue
Paint and Paintbrushes
Crucifix (or other religious items to decorate the Holy Water Font)

Directions:

Paint Wooden Plaque.  Let dry.

Attach Sawtooth Hanger.

Another option that would be really pretty would be to glue ribbon to the back, creating a loop to hang the font from on the wall.

Applying a dab of hot glue, attach plastic cup.

Decorate with Crucifix or other religious objects.

By Thy Precious Blood and by this Holy Water, cleanse me from my sins, O Lord.

"Wisdom of the Saints" Journal

This year my Little Flowers Girls' Club will be moving on to Wreath IV and studying the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit! Our first meeting, which will be held next week, will be based on the gift of Wisdom and St. Teresa of Avila. Since one of the symbols for St. Teresa of Avila is a "Book," I came up with a "Wisdom of the Saints" Journal for the girls to make as our craft, in which they can record their favorite quotes from the saints!

This craft would also tie in nicely for the 6th meeting of Wreath II based on the virtue of Wisdom and St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein), substituting the image of St. Teresa of Avila with a coloring page of St. Teresa Benedicta.  It would also be a great craft for any children, not just Little Flowers, to make for the actual feast of St. Teresa of Avila, which is coming up next month on October 15th!

Craft: "Wisdom of the Saints" Journal

Supplies:

Blank Book (I purchased these from Rainbow Resource)
Coloring Page of St. Teresa of Avila from Waltzing Matilda
Colored Pencils, Crayons or Markers
Glue Stick
Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets

Directions:

Re-Size Coloring Page to fit on the front of your blank book or notebook. Add "Wisdom of the Saints" to the top of the page and "By (little flower name)" to the bottom.  (I will have these pre-printed for our meeting, with each of the girls names already printed on the bottom.   I was able to make these quickly in Word.)

Have each girl color the image and glue to the front cover of their book.  (My oldest daughter colored the sample page.)

Trim laminating sheet to 1/4-1/2" past each side of the book, cutting the two outside corners at an angle, so that you can wrap it around the edges to secure. (I was able to cut the 9x12 sheets in half, using one sheet for two books.)

Instruct the girls to fill the book with their favorite saint quotes, the "Wisdom of the Saints!"

St. Teresa of Avila, pray for us!

P.S. Does anyone happen to have the pdf saved from the St. Teresa of Avila paper doll I have linked to in the past? We've made it a few times, but I can't seem to find the file on my computer (I think it might not have been transferred over from my old computer), nor have I been able to find it again online, and would like to print some out for our meeting.  If so, could you please email me a copy?
