Four Months

by | Oct 10, 2017 | Baby "Grace", Baby News | 11 comments

My baby girl! She is four months old now and weighed in at a whopping 11 pounds 11 ounces at her appointment this morning.
Our little “Grace” is doing so well! She is still (by far) our fussiest baby ever, but she’s usually happy for at least half of each day now. She will sleep for one 3-4 hour stretch each night, which is so much better than waking up hourly around the clock like she did for her first 2-3 months. We’re so grateful that she is healthy, growing, and that we haven’t had any more scares.
She has started rolling over, from both her back to her tummy, and then from her tummy to her back again. She smiles, loves babbling, reaches for whatever she can, and is just starting to giggle when I’m playing with her. During her fussiest times (in the evening) I can usually cheer her up with a warm bath.  She loves spending time in her baby carrier, but the buckle broke on our recent road trip and I’m waiting for the replacement to arrive (she’s still too small for the rest of my carriers)… She has been such a blessing and we love her to pieces!

Maybe it's because you had so much to deal with during your pregnancy with 'Grace', or maybe it's because you've had a PTSD-level scare with this little beauty, or maybe it's because I cannot imagine how you have handled the lack of sleep along with the protracted fussiness, but I feel so connected to you all and this extraordinary baby! I am in awe of how you've done it all. 'Grace' is gorgeous and you, my dear, are a Saint. How else can you explain all the love??

I would take that sweet baby to a chiropractor. Something might be out of line.

Oh, I have. I'm still seeing a chiropractor/physical therapist myself and she treated the baby during one of my appointments. We ended up in the emergency room the next night following her ALTE. Most of the fussiness has been caused by reflux, and what I eat really affects her so I do my best to follow my AIP diet (grain / dairy / egg/legume/seed/ nightshade/ etc free) as closely as possible which seems to help the most. Ever since she reached three months from my due date (3 months/3 weeks since she was a few weeks early) she has really improved. We've successfully been able to go on a couple road trips over the last couple weeks without her crying the whole time in the car! The pediatrician thinks that, at this point, some of it is just her temperament…

It's hard to believe that last year at this time I didn't even know I was expecting yet… Feels like a lifetime ago! I'm sure it has been all the prayers that have gotten us through this challenging year. My poor family has had plenty to put up with this last year… There have been so many times when I've not been very good about coping or carrying all the little crosses.

Your Baby Grace is such a precious Angel…her big blue eyes are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing her 4 month old pictures. As a mother of twin baby girls (34 years ago) may I suggest this little trick that we used for our youngest baby girl. When she cried so without consoling my husband and I would turn on the water faucet in the bathroom with no lights on and the sound of the running water always calmed her down as we held her. It happened one night that as my husband was holding her while she was crying and I happened to turn on the water faucet to wash my hands and she stopped crying…so we tried this when she cried again and she stopped crying and fussing. We used this technique each time she cried so hard and it always worked. If Baby Grace is comforted by a bath perhaps the running water might help to calm her down too.

She looks SO much like Ranger, and Twinkle Toes, but she could be Ranger's twin! 🙂 I am so glad she is improving!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
