A Few of Our Lenten Activities

~ Our 2010 Lenten Calendar  ~

A few changes for this year ::

::  I decided to write in the items (for the younger children to count) daily, rather than plan it all out ahead of time.  I hope to coordinate what I have them count with what I'll be working on de-cluttering each day for the 40 Bag Challenge.

:: Our older boys will earn pennies by reading religious/saint books rather than counting various household items with the younger children.  For each page they read they will earn a penny for their rice bowls.   They were very excited about this change and have been doing quite a bit of extra reading each night.   Hubby said that perhaps we should have said per chapter instead of per page! ;)

  1. Jessica,
    Your Lenten plans are beautiful!

I love getting ideas for great books from your sidebars. I've been looking through the Lent and Easter books recently, and I'm wondering which ones have appealed most to your littlest ones. My daughter is about Snuggles' age, and I would like to begin building our collection, but also want it to be something she'll be interested in now. Any suggestions for that young age group?

Thank you! Blessings to you and your family!

  2. Looks great! Have a peaceful Lent.

  3. thanks for the great post, hopefully in a few years I will get my act together!

  4. Thank you so much for sharing all of your wonderful ideas! You are such a blessing. We've had our Jesus Tree for several years and this year it's really clicking with the kiddos thanks to the coloring pages you linked up with each day's readings. May you have a blessed and fruitful lent.

  5. WOW! Great ideas! Thank you for sharing! :)

  6. Some great ideas! (like always ;) )

I finally got started on the Jesus tree and as of last night, I have the "ornaments" done through day 15. It's slow, but I'm sooo glad I'm doing it (and don't have to do it again!) the kids love it!

  7. This is so awesome Jessica!

  8. I have been doing the penny-a-page with our older children (for them to give away)... my oldest daughter (13) read over 700 pages in two days. This may turn into a lucrative endeavor for whatever charity she gives it to, but I think my husband might like to rethink the idea, too! She can just fly through the Vision Books in an hour.
    God bless you!

  9. Thank you everyone!

Jenny ~ That's a tough question.. I have SUCH a hard time choosing favorites when it comes to our books. I love them all! Snuggles is very particular and has a few favorite board books, unlike my girls when they were his age... The girls always loved sitting and listening to whatever I was reading to their older brothers. I'll pull out all the books in the next couple days and see if I can narrow it down to our favorites.

Sue ~ I am so glad you are enjoying the coloring page links!

Kelly~ GREAT JOB!! It is SO nice in future years when it just needs to be pulled out for Lent! ;)

Kristyn ~ 700 PAGES in 2 days!!!! If she keeps that up she really IS going to have quite a bit to donate!

  10. I bought that Stations kit for my 13yo for Epiphany. I've wanted them forever, so my brilliant idea was to get my very crafty oldest child to make them for me. :) She's lost steam though. I may have to finish.

  11. I linked to this and a number of other fabulous Lent posts on my weekly roundup - thanks so much for sharing!

  12. Jenny ~ I finally had a chance to post about our favorite Picture Books for Easter.

  13. Thank you for all your beautiful ideas. I hope to share my Lent activities as well. What an inspiration you and many of the Catholic mom blogs I have been viewing the past year. The Holy Spirit is truly in your hearts and in your homes!

  14. Such a beautiful site and awesome Lent ideas. I hope to also be able to add my Lent activities and ideas to my blog. I don't know how you do it Jessica. I usually blog late in the wee hours of the morning. :)

I am truly thankful to see your blog along with many other Catholic moms that inspire me when the spiritual fruit basket is sometimes empty. All of you inspire many moms to do such wonders in their Domestic church. You are truly an inspiration and a source of mommy mentoring to many moms. God bless you and your beautiful family.
