My Daybook ~ January 6, 2009

FOR TODAY: January 6th, 2009
The Traditional Feast of the Epiphany

Outside my Window… it is suppose to rain, and it is chilly. It’s so nice to be inside with a warm fire and slippers!

I am thinking… and praying for one of our Godsons who is having some testing done to day.

I am thankful… that my children are all healthy (other than common colds/flu), and that my hubby has a (fairly) secure job. There are so many others out there that are dealing with crosses in these areas.

From the kitchen… I promised the kids that (after their school work is done) we will make a batch of star shaped cookies like we did last year for the feast of the Epiphany. I also picked up a loaf of Harry & David’s Christmas Morning Bread that we are going to have for a mid-morning snack.

From the school room… Ahhh! The school room! It is so nice to be getting back into a bit of a routine! The boys have been sick, but even still, I think they are happy to be back to school too. I haven’t planned any extra projects this week… We are just concentrating on getting the basics done, including Math and History. (Though History was begginning to feel like an “extra“, and the boys have been begging for it!) I reworked our schedule for the year, and to finish Math by mid June, we need to do one lesson a day including Fridays and we will still be able to finish. Whew! I finally feel like I have a plan and that we can accomplish it!

I am creating… new lesson plans in Edu-Tract for the boys and a new schedule for myself.

I am going… to start posting my weight-loss/gain each week once again. I use to do this each Wednesday, and it was really helping. I think starting next week I will add it to my daybooks. I weighed and measured this morning, and boy do I have my work cut out for me.

I am wearing… my new “hearthside” slippers all the time. They are so comfy!

I am readingWe Three Kings, The Story of the Three Wise Kings, and The Last Straw to the kids sometime today.

I am hoping… that everyone gets over this cold/flu quickly.

I am hearingTales from the Old Testament playing on the stereo while the boys copy this poem to add to their Book of Centuries. They also just finished coloring pictures from this coloring book, which have been great to add to their notebooks too!

Around the house… let’s see. Hubby painted trim during our Christmas break, and I just *love* going into our living room and looking at the painted trim above our front door. It has needed to be painted since we added on, umm, 4 years ago. I had gotten use to it, and now every time I walk into the living room it catches my eye and makes me smile! (Same with the cabinets in the hallway… They look so pretty white!)

I am also loving our new VCR/DVD COMBO player that my auntie gave us for Christmas! She and Julio (her exchange student) babysat for us when I was in the hospital, and they couldn’t figure out how to hook the DVD player up. You see, to use the DVD you would need to unhook the VCR and visa versa, and they couldn’t figure it out. It is so nice not to have to do this anymore! I feel so spoiled!!

One of my favorite things… is this beautiful new picture that was given to us for Christmas from a friend of ours!! I am still trying to decide where to hang it up, there are so many places I’d like to put it! =)

Thank you again Marc!

A Few Plans For This Week

We won’t be going anywhere this week, just Mass next Sunday! We will be staying home, cleaning up from Christmas, and working on fine tuning our daily schedule. Next week is going to be super busy, so I’m going to enjoy this quiet week at home and hopefully everyone will be well again soon!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
